Update Your Laundry Room For a Clean Start to the New Year

When you think about making design updates to your home, your laundry room may not be top of mind—but perhaps it should be. We remodeled the laundry room in our San Diego home, starting with replacing our side-by-side washer/dryer with full-size stackables. We also added a decorative chandelier, a fabric Roman shade, and a custom patterned vent screen, and installed a clothes rod over the sink to hang-dry delicate items.

Our laundry room doubled as the dogs’ room. Their designer beds and bowls, dog artwork/photos and a Poodle hook for hanging their leashes provided a distinctly canine feel— and we installed a doggie door in the main door leading outside.

You may want to consider some or all of these five tweaks that will enhance this workhouse space’s looks and functionality:

1. Display supplies on shelves in decorative jars and baskets.

2. Add a decorative light fixture, new paint color, art and photos.

3. Use wall space efficiently with a drying rack, clothes rod or hooks to hang items.

4. Revisit the layout of your washer/dryer—think vertical rather than horizontal—so you can install a sink.

5. Create a cozy den for your pets.

Diane’s Take: The laundry room is an underused space that can be efficiently space planned and be more than a room to clean clothes. Think about how you can better use your laundry room and give Bella Designs a call to make it happen.
Happy New Year and happy designing!
