DESIGN A HEALTHIER BODY WITH A HOME GYM

The heat is on! When temperatures soar, you may not be motivated to go outside to work out — and it may even be dangerous to do so. A good alternative to maintain your exercise schedule during even the hottest weather is adding a home gym or dedicating a space in your home to work out. There are plenty of ways to get a good workout with or without exercise equipment, including:

1. Sign up for virtual classes with instructors who teach yoga and other exercises

2. Watch videos on Fitbit and other fitness apps for various aerobic classes

3. Use weights to strengthen and build muscles

4. Purchase exercise equipment such as stationary bikes and treadmills if you have space for them

5. Use resistance bands to stretch and strengthen

Your home gym doesn’t need to rival what you can find at a health club but you may be surprised at the options available to you to make even a smaller area serve as a workout space. For instance, I use my guest room for morning workouts that consist of stretching using weights and resistance bands.
Diane’s Take: Once you have a home gym established, you can alternate workouts between it and a health club, use it exclusively or work out in both places — adding in nature workouts like walking, running and hiking when the weather cools. During COVID, I had the opportunity to take Zoom yoga classes; many studios and health clubs still offer this option, which is ideal if you prefer staying home to work out. You may be surprised what’s out there when you explore the many exercise options offered.
Let me know if I can assist you with space planning a home gym/dedicated workout space. And stay cool!
